BULIMIANERVOSA

Bulimia nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating and purging, or consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food consumed, typically by vomiting, chewing and spitting out food, taking a laxative, diuretic, or stimulant, and/or excessive exercise. One of the many reasons people engage in this behaviour is pre-occupation with weight and size. While people with Bulimia focus on a desire to be thin and lose weight, numerous scholars discuss the idea that the focus on weight is a surface issue. There is high comorbidity with obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety and PTSD.
