DAYFORNIGHT

Day for Night

La Nuit américaine is a 1973 French film directed by François Truffaut. It stars Jacqueline Bisset and Jean-Pierre Léaud. In French, nuit américaine is a technical process whereby sequences filmed outdoors in daylight are shot using tungsten or infrared film stock and underexposed to appear as if they are taking place at night. In the English-speaking world the film is known as Day for Night, which is the equivalent English expression for the process.

Day for night

Day for night, also known as nuit américaine, is the name for cinematographic techniques used to simulate a night scene while filming in daylight. Some techniques use tungsten-balanced rather than daylight-balanced film stock or special blue filters; under-exposing the shot can create the illusion of darkness or moonlight.
