They first appeared during the Triassic period, 231.4 million years ago, and were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the beginning of the Jurassic until the end of the Cretaceous, when the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups at the close of the Mesozoic Era. Dinosaur!

Dinosaur! is an American television documentary about dinosaurs. It was first broadcast in the United States on November 5, 1985, on CBS. In 1991, another documentary, also entitled Dinosaur! though not related, was hosted on A&E by the CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite.
