PENNYPRESS

Penny press

Penny press newspapers were cheap, tabloid-style papers produced in the United States during the mid-19th century. Mass production of inexpensive newspapers became possible following the shift from handcrafted to steam-powered printing. Famous for costing one cent compared to other papers which cost around 6 cents, penny press papers were revolutionary by making the news accessible to working and middle class citizens for a reasonable price.
