RELATIVEATOMICMASS

Relative atomic mass

Relative atomic mass is a dimensionless physical quantity, the ratio of the average mass of atoms of an element to 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon-12 . The term is equivalent to atomic weight, which is the older term, and which is also sample specific. Thus, two samples of a chemical element that normally consists of more than one isotope, collected from two widely spaced natural solid sources on Earth, are expected to have slightly different relative atomic masses .
