TORCH

Torch

A torch is a fire source, traditionally a rod-shaped piece of wood with fabric wrapped around one end and soaked in pitch or some other flammable material. Torches have been and are now used for a variety of purposes, not all to increase the ambient light level. Torches were often supported in sconces to illuminate corridors in castles or crypts. Torches are used for various symbolic and processional purposes and in juggling entertainment.
