The Wisdom of Salomon

Posted on November 29, 2022November 24, 2022 By Alex Boisvert 1 Comment on The Wisdom of Salomon

A while back, Quiara introduced the concept of a “Salomon number”. She explains it better than I could, but basically, how many collaborations do you need to go through to get from any given constructor to the greatest of all mentors, Nancy Salomon? Quiara says:

As much as I wish there was an easy way to tabulate your Salomon number, there isn’t a convenient applet that can do that

I think you know where we’re going with this!

Check out crossworld’s answer to the Oracle of Bacon: the Wisdom of Salomon. Type in the names of any two constructors and it will find the shortest link between them, if such a link exists. “But wait,” you say. “Alex, you had a puzzle with Brendan Quigley and Brendan had a puzzle with Nancy. Why isn’t your Salomon number 2?” Well, our data set isn’t 100% complete, because, um, that’s impossible. We’re powered by Saul Pwanson’s data set, which is very good, but low on indies. I’m now a contributor to that data set, so hopefully we can get some more indies in there! Keep an eye out for updates going forward.

Anyway, check it out, play around with it! If you find something wrong with it or have suggestions, please leave us a comment! We want to make this a fun and informative tool for everyone.
